What is Knura

Knura turns an NFC tag into a button you can trust. When a phone taps the tag, your server checks that the tap came from that exact tag, right now, and wasn’t copied or replayed. Only then does it run the action you chose, like starting a Home Assistant automation or sending a webhook.

  • Tags are NTAG 424 DNA stickers, cards or fobs. Each one gets its own keys and writes a fresh, signed link every time it’s tapped.
  • knurd is the server that checks each tap. A copied link, an old link or a forged one is refused.
  • knurgN runs inside knurd and decides what a verified tap does: a webhook, Home Assistant or a Matter sensor.
  • knurctl and the Knura app set tags up, with a USB reader or an Android phone.

You can run all of it yourself at home, or use a hosted account so there’s no server to keep running.
